Formerly described as \u003ci\u003eHydnophytum\u003c\/i\u003e, both species are now more likely to be assigned to the genus \u003ci\u003eSquamellaria\u003c\/i\u003e on the basis of phylogenetic studies.\u003c\/p\u003eWhile \u003ci\u003eSquamellaria kajewskii\u003c\/i\u003e has an extremely symmetrical caudex, even externally, the caudex of \u003ci\u003eS. guppyanum\u003c\/i\u003e appears very irregular at first glance.
