Ants inhabit the deep fissures and spaces between the lobes of the strongly dissected rhizome, where they establish their nests and accumulate organic debris that serves as an additional nutrient source for the plant.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe species is distinguished by its broad, flattened, irregularly lobed rhizome with numerous deep furrows and a dense covering of dark brown scales. In contrast to several other species of the genus, it does not develop enclosed internal chambers. The large, deeply pinnatifid fronds arise from the upper surface of the rhizome and bear numerous round sori on their lower surface.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eVery large form from Mt.
